Italy Plans – Rome

I’m going to Italy!!

Yeah, I know…everyone already knows. But sometimes I find myself just having to say that out loud. More like squeel with glee.

Here are some of the deets.

Flying to Rome on April 24th. Flying home from Venice on May 9th.

Rome – 2 nights

Some of the highlights will be:

Vatican City. (I’m completely prepared to sit in front of Michelangelo’s Pieta and weep at the beauty of it for as long as I’m allowed.)

Spanish Steps. Only a few steps from our amazing hotel.

Trevi Fountain. I have a few wishes ready.

The hotel sounds amazing (must find some new adjectives).

Five minutes from the Spanish Steps, the hotel is located in the historic heart of Rome in a meticulously renovated 17th century mansion on a quiet side street adjacent to the Via Condotti and its world renowned luxury shops and boutiques. The exclusive area also hosts a variety of restaurants, theatres and other night life attractions.

This is where we will be enjoying our breakfasts in Rome.

I know someday I will have to return to Rome to discover it further

Next stop Spoleto.

  1. Thauna, since you have a photo of the Pieta, I have to tell you that when I saw it, in person, it was an incredibly special moment. Suddenly it all came to me that here I was, in one of the most amazing and religious places on earth, looking at a masterpiece by one of the most renowned, talented artists in the history of the world. And the subject of it, a mother holding her adult child that way — well, all of it just filled me with so much emotion. I can’t wait for you to go!

  2. The Vatican mesmerized me. Standing in St. Peter’s Basilica was so amazing. We’re so small, it’s so huge…combine that with the light streaming in and it was an unbelievable experience.

I hope you get some time to wander the streets too!

    • I’m a bit in awe of the fact that I will be there about a month or so after the conclave was gathered in the Sistine Chapel too choose a new pope. It’s one thing to know that is where they do it, but for it to be so recent is pretty cool.

  3. Awesome! Promise me you’ll check out Civita di Bagnoregio…a magical hilltop town about one hour north of Rome that also neighbors the enchanting Orvieto. :)

  4. I was just reading about Civita di Bagnoregio the other day…I don’t think we’ll visit there. But I will definitely keep it open for any chance to visit. We’ll be staying in Spoleto and have one free day, so you never know.
